Politicians and lobby groups using crisis in Ukraine to push pro-oil message is ‘crass opportunism’: Elizabeth May

Canadian politicians and lobbyists are using the crisis in Ukraine to advocate for more fossil fuel expansion in a move of “crass opportunism,” said Green Party parliamentary leader Elizabeth May.

Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the House of Commons and social media have reverberated with claims from politicians and fossil fuel industry representatives that Canadian oil and gas is needed to replace the 40 per cent Europe imports from Russia.

Renewables Produced 54.4% of Germanys Public Electricity In March

Germany’s renewable sector is setting new records again. For the past three months, they supplied more public electricity than the coal sector. This came to a peak last month. Renewables produced 54.4% of Germanys electricity in March 2019.

Why We Need To Look At Hamburg Wasser

This was to have been an article about the urban waste water and energy project for a new subdivision in Hamburg’s Jenfelder Au district. This as yet-to-be finished neighbourhood will use 30% less water than the surrounding area and have a completely self-sufficient energy supply. But this project is only one of the reasons why we need to look at Hamburg Wasser.

Energiewende Is Very Much Alive And On-Track In Germany

Renewable sources contributed 27% of Germany’s domestic electricity in the first quarter. In windy Schleswig-Holstein, which obtained 90% of its energy from renewable sources in 2013, they hope to reach 100% this year. The role played by fossil fuels and the nuclear sectors is shrinking. Contrary to what naysayers have been predicting, Energiewende is very much alive and on-track in Germany.
