RCMP investigating after woman was found dead on Quadra Island, say it was ‘targeted,’ but ‘isolated’

An investigation has begun on Quadra Island after a 39-year-old woman was found dead inside her home.

RCMP were conducting a wellness check on Jan. 16 when they found her inside her home, according to press release Feb. 1.

Police have confirmed that the death is criminal based on evidence forensic investigators have collected and believe it was a targeted killing.

Cortes Island docks, local harbor authority recommend some easy steps to ensure security

Summer is the busiest time of year for recreational boaters, and docks on Cortes Island are popular.

Harbour Authority of Cortes Island Manager Jenny Hartwick anticipates one of the busiest seasons on record. She advises vessel owners to secure valuable items on board in a locked area and encourages them to call the RCMP if anything goes missing and to advise the Harbour Authority as well.

Single motor vehicle accident on Cortes Island 

At approximately 11:30 PM on Tuesday, June 21, Quadra RCMP received a report of a single vehicle motor vehicle accident on Cortes Island. 

Their subsequent press release states, “The driver was pronounced dead on scene and the passenger was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. The passenger is currently in stable condition. Speed is believed to be a factor in the collision. The investigation is ongoing.”

Quadra RCMP update from May 17-22

Cst. Rebekah Draht of the Quadra RCMP released a report of 10 incidents that occurred between May 17 and 22nd, 2022. 

Seven of these accounts mention either a boat, or a ferry terminal.
