Angst in America as Canada launches new plan to poach foreign tech workers

Canada’s newly unveiled approach to attract foreign tech talent is being met with angst in America while being heralded as a game changer for the country’s emerging technologies, according to experts.

But for the multi-pronged Tech Talent Strategy to work, Canada needs to ensure that there is a clear and predictable pathway toward obtaining permanent residency, said immigration experts and IT consultants.

Migrants call on Trudeau to fulfill his promise to regularize the undocumented

Editor’s Note: According to the State of Campbell River (2021), only about ½% of the immigrants to Campbell River came from outside Canada. The percentage was 2½% on Quadra Island. The Cortes Island Profile does not differentiate between immigrants from ‘another province or another country.’

Refugees, undocumented migrants, international students and caregivers will rally Monday outside the federal government’s winter retreat in Hamilton.

Organized by the Migrant Rights Network (MRN), demonstrators want a national immigration regularization program for the 500,000 undocumented migrants in Canada.

Canada desperate for construction workers

Desperate for workers, Canada is implementing several immediate measures to bolster its skills and trades sectors including allowing successful candidates to bring their family members to the country.

In addition, several provinces are opening their doors wider to ease crippling labour shortages while creating pathways for out-of-status migrants to help Canadian employers.

Immigration Canada rings in 2023 by making history

Canada’s immigration department is giving itself a pat on the back today by announcing it has achieved its target of welcoming 431,645 new permanent residents to the country in 2022, about 30,000 more than the previous year.

“Canada has experienced one of the fastest recoveries from the pandemic, thanks in large part to our approach to immigration,” said Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) in a media statement to welcome the new year and highlight the historic milestone.

Immigration lawyers caution Ottawa on new Express Entry system

Editor’s note: Roughly ½% of the people who moved to Campbell River between 2014/15 and 2018/19 were immigrants from the United States or other nations. The other  99½% came ‘from other parts of BC, and to a lesser extent, migration from other parts of Canada.”(1) The percentage of International immigrants coming to Area C was higher, roughly 2.5%, during a similar time frame.(2) The Cortes Island Profile does not give a breakdown for the number of immigrants. 27.7% of the household moves between 2011 and 2016 involved people from ‘either another province or another country.’ The vast majority were most likely Canadians.
