Tech support services on Cortes Island are now free during weekly drop-in sessions

CKTZ News, through an LJI grant from Canada-info.ca

Those who have used the Tech Support Services of Clio Forsyth Morrissette on Cortes Island can now enjoy them free of charge during weekly drop-in sessions.

The free computer tech support was made possible through a partnership between CKTZ Community Radio, Cortes Literacy Now, Folk University and Decoda Literacy Solutions. Any Cortes Islanders requiring assistance with their computer questions can drop in at the CKTZ Radio Station in Mansons Landing between 3:30-5:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoons.

Manda Aufochs-Gillespie, coordinator of Cortes Literacy Now! commented that the people needing the most support in digital literacy skills, such as youth and seniors, are also the people who can least afford the service when it is not free.

Forsyth Morrissette says that the majority of her clients are ages 40 and older. Statistics Canada reported in 2019 that internet use among senior populations is lower than younger generations due to various factors, including the limited exposure of seniors to the internet among their social networks.
