BC Ferries says it’s making progress on its Clean Futures Plan

Editor’s not: Cortes Island residents may also benefit from the addition of the hybrid e-ferries, which may eliminate many, if not all, of our one ferry waits at the Quathiaski Cove terminal.

BC Ferries’ Clean Futures Plan calls for its fleet to do away with greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 and progress is being made, according to the organization. It issued an update to the plan on October 27th.

BC Ferries provides WiFi Access at Whaletown and Heriot Bay terminals

BC Ferries has announced that, thanks to $1.5 million in funding from provincial government grant, they have been able to provide WiFi in an additinal 14 small terminals. Whaletown and Heriot Bay are among them

Daniel McIntosh, Communications manager with BC Ferries explained, “Now they will be able to access WiFI at the terminal. Previously they would have had to either pick up a signal from somewhere or use the roaming feature. So now when folks are waiting at the terminal, they should be able to access WiFi at that terminal free of charge.”

BC ferries further delays needed capacity on Campbell River to Quadra Island route

Lengthy waits for travelers on BC Ferries’ Campbell River to Quadra Island route have been chronic for several years any time of year. Relief was to come this summer with the implementation of two vessels serving the route instead of one, increasing capacity by 80 per cent.

Newest Island Class BC Ferries receive Indigenous names

In a special naming ceremony in Victoria’s harbour, the third and fourth Island Class ferries destined for the Campbell River – Quadra Island route were officially designated as “Island Nagalis” and “Island K’ulut’a.”
