The ECOreport interviews organizer Renay Maurice about the protest against BC’s diminishing education system: Christy’s Classroom
Why is there so much conflict between BC’s Teachers and the provincial government? An Interview with Renay Maurice, who organized the protest known as “Christy’s Classroom” (named after Premier Christy Clark) on the front lawn of the provincial legislature.
Christy’s Classroom
In 2002 the court twice ruled it was illegal for the province to legislate away hundreds of clauses related to class size and composition from the teachers’ collective agreement.
Since then the BC Liberals have broken contracts and ignored court decisions in their ongoing fight with the B.C. Teachers’ Federation.
A chronicle of diminishing resources, increased classroom size and government mismanagement that goes back to Christy Clark’s tenure as the Minister of Education.
“The time for waiting is over. Reinvest in public education.”
