  11. China* – 14 visitors made 37 PV, averaging 2 seconds per visit and 100% bounce rate. To have this number of incredibly quick visits with 100% bounce rate seems more typical of bots than humans.
  12. The Netherlands* – 13 people made 13 PV, averaging 1m 31s
  • * Robotic visits are usually very quick, usually close to 0 seconds. When the time recorded by Independent Analytics was less than 5s, I used the corresponding statistic from Google G4A instead. China was the only nation whose average count from both analytics programs was below 5 seconds.

Visitors came from 619 cities and ‘not set’ areas, the top 4 Canadian locations were:

  1. Vancouver – 992 people, averaging 2:14 per session
  2. CKTZ’s Listening Area – 987 people
    • Greater Campbell River (includes Cortes & Quadra Islands) – 524 people, averaging 5:27 per session
    • Undesignated rural area, assumed to be part of CKTZ’s listening area – 357 people, averaging 2:12 min per session
    • Powell River – 75 people, averaging 2:09
    • Comox – 21 people, averaging 2:51  
  3. Victoria – 110 people – av 1:35

SoundCloud – 1,094 Plays (was 2,471, but reduced because of suspected bot plays)

Suspected bots

(The following US entries may be bot activity. Indicators: (1) the cities established reputations; (2) a sudden dramatic jump in numbers; (3) visits of close to 0 seconds with 100% bounce rate. SoundCloud does not provide about the length of plays or bounce rates, so I looked for corresponding data on Cortes Currents and found Boardman – 2 entries, averaging 1s, 100% bounce rate; Washington 1 entry, 1s, 100% bounce rate; Prineville 1 entry, 0s, 100% bounce rate.)

There is no entry for Eboticoke on Cortes Currents. It is most likely listed under Toronto, where the relevant data would be hidden amidst statistics from actual human visitors to Cortes Currents. I suspect the Eboticoke ‘visitors’ are bots because of the suburb’s reputation as a robotic centre and its sudden appearance with strong numbers.
