Cst. Rebekah Draht of the Quadra RCMP released a report of 10 incidents that occurred between May 17 and 22nd, 2022.
Seven of these accounts mention either a boat, or a ferry terminal.
One of the exceptions occurred on Cortes Island, where an ailing woman did not respond to her son’s repeated attempts to contact her. As she has a history of passing out, after three hours the man contacted police. They, in turn, asked the Cortes Fire Department to carry out a wellness check. The woman was okay. The Quadra RCMP thank the Cortes Fire department for their assistance.

That same day, police responded to a disturbance at the Walcan fish plant. A man who had been fired the previous day, was threatening staff. The RCMP escorted him off the property and drove him to the ferry terminal. Before leaving for home, the man apologized for his behaviour.
In the evening of May 18th, the owner of a local Air BnB reported that one of his guests had not yet returned from a hike. The RCMP were in the beginning stages of their investigation, when they received a second call. The hiker contacted the complainant and was on her way back. Officers commend the hiker for ensuring that someone knew where she was going and so that rescue services were contacted when she not return on time.
The following day, a young man stole a bottle of brandy from the Heriot Bay Tru Value liquor store. Staff was able to identify the male and had the Campbell River RCMP apprehend him as he walked off the ferry in Campbell River. Tru Value did not press charges, but the brandy was confiscated and the youth was released to his guardian and with notice to not return to the store.
Officers picked up an intoxicated male on the beach at Drew Harbour. The man had unsuccessfully been trying to swim out to a moored vessel. He ‘voiced mental health concerns’ and was transported to the Campbell River hospital for further evaluation.

In the evening of May 19th, a woman phoned 911 to say had she some mental health concerns and needed to see a doctor. She then hung up and refused to answer the phone or respond to messages. Due to the type of phone it was, officers were unable to determine the location of the caller. A media release was issued and local individuals told her to contact the RCMP. The woman said she had recovered and ‘was educated’ on how and when to use 911.
On May 20th, a female driver reported that a man in a black Chevrolet pickup had been tailgating her. The male driver forced her to come to a stop and then proceeded to berate her for driving dangerously. The complainant did not know her accuser and did not take down his license plate number. A few days later, the male contacted officers and claimed the woman had been driving dangerously. The matter is still under investigation.
Quadra RCMP responded to a report of a vessel fire at April Point. Officers observed the vessel was engulfed in flames. Nobody was on board and the owner was at the hospital for an unrelated issue. The matter does not appear to be suspicious , but is still under investigation.
The following evening, Quadra RCMP was informed that human remains had been found on the shore across from April Point Marina. Officers were able to determine that the incident was unrelated to the boat fire. The deceased person is believed to have drowned after their dingy overturned. The incident is not believed to be suspicious, but out of respect for the family further information will not be released

During the afternoon of May 22nd, police were informed there was a group of impaired drivers in the ferry lineup at Quathiaski Cove. Police located the vehicle and determined the driver and all passengers were very sober. Officers spoke to the complainant ,who was unable to provide any concrete evidence as to why he thought the parties were intoxicated save that they were laughing, dancing, and having a good time.
