BC Ferry commissioner calls for greater engagement with local advisory committees in decision making

An independent report of the nine coastal BC Ferry Advisory Committees is calling for significant improvements by the ferry authority when it comes to public engagement and decision making. It points to weaknesses in the current format and understanding of the mandate of the committees, as well as how the ferry authority communicates and reports on issues, their resolution and how public engagement is measured.

Quadra ICAN: surveying the need for ride share on Quadra, Cortes and Read Islands

Quadra ICAN is trying to gage the public support for a ride share program on Quadra, Cortes and Read Islands. 

On their website, it states “Ride sharing is essentially carpooling. A driver offers a seat in their car to other community members seeking a ride to a similar destination. It is an environmentally conscious, cost effective, ferry line reducing and community building alternative mode of transportation.”

BC ferries further delays needed capacity on Campbell River to Quadra Island route

Lengthy waits for travelers on BC Ferries’ Campbell River to Quadra Island route have been chronic for several years any time of year. Relief was to come this summer with the implementation of two vessels serving the route instead of one, increasing capacity by 80 per cent.

BC Ferries has added free Wi-Fi service at smaller terminals

A 1.5 million dollar fund provided to the BC Ferries corporation by the provincial government, has added internet access to 14 small terminals on the BC coast. The effort is part of an initiative aimed at increasing broadband service to more British Columbians and visitors.
