New ‘Southern Wind Foundation’ launched to honour Billie Johnson and other MMIWG

(ANNews) – Marless Johnson is a mother on a mission to get justice for her daughter, Billie Johnson. Trial dates are set for March 20, 2023, to April 2, 2023. Jury selection takes place this month.

Billie Johnson was living in Edmonton at the time of her death and in a relationship with Kenneth Courtorielle, 35, who has been charged with second-degree murder in Johnson’s death.

NDP ready for 2022 byelection as Notley blasts Alberta’s handling of COVID-19

Alberta NDP Leader Rachel  Notley  said lifting COVID-19 restrictions for what the province called “the best summer ever” was “the government’s biggest failure” this past year.

In a year-end interview, Notley said it was this decision that worsened the fourth wave of the virus and pushed Alberta’s health care system to its breaking point.

Economic Development While Preserving Cortes’ Core Values

When the Cortes Island Business and Tourism Association (CIBATA) was launched, it faced some tough challenges. Some believe Cortes is still stuck in the seventies and many residents would like to preserve that. Yet there is a need for the same business sectors you find everywhere else: retail, health, building and trades, tourism medical marijuana, aquaculture, learning / professional development and social profit. On February 24, CIBATA will be unveiling the draft of Cortes Island’s Local Economic Action Plan at the Klahoose Multipurpose Building, between 10 AM and 4 PM. In this morning’s program the association’s President, Colin Funk, talks about economic development while preserving Cortes’ core values.
