Systemic racism in Canada’s healthcare system persists

In effort to address ongoing critical gaps in our understanding of Indigenous health, Edgewood Health Network (EHN Canada) hosted an online webinar on March 10 to highlight the disparities in healthcare access among Indigenous peoples living in urban centres. 

Hosted by Celina Sqwasulwut Williams, a spiritual advisor at Ravenswood Consulting, participants were guided through the current state of the healthcare system and how it needs to improve its diversity and inclusion measures for Indigenous communities.

16 First Nations sign equity agreements for Coastal GasLink

If the Coastal GasLink pipeline is completed, 16 B.C. First Nations will have a combined 10 per cent ownership stake in the project.

All 20 First Nations with existing benefit agreements along the pipeline route were offered the opportunity to become business partners through equity ownership, according to TC Energy Corp.’s announcement on March 9.

Indigenous women are blazing a conservation trail

There is a saying in the Kaska language: “Dene K’éh Didī Nī́ʼ Sū́géhʼīn Mā” — “woman taking care of the land.”

“It’s something that’s really well known in our community,” Gillian Staveley, a director at the Dena Kayeh Institute in British Columbia, told Canada’s National Observer, “because people acknowledge that it is women who are taking care of the land and they always have been and they always will be.”

Elder housing breaks ground in a west coast First Nation

After 30 years of effort and planning, Tla’amin Nation has secured an 8.8 million dollar Federal fund for the brand new independent Elder and disability housing project, ƛaχƛaχay ʔaye (Klah-Klah-Xay Ayeh).
