As people scroll their Facebook and Instagram feeds today they may see an ad about a missing person, Raymona Peter. Peter went missing on Sept. 30 from Sooke, B.C., in the middle of a week of Red Dress awareness campaigns.

Wet’suwet’en land defenders ceremony

The Union of B.C. Indian Chiefs (UBCIC) is standing with Wet’suwet’en land defenders who said they were threatened with arrest during a recent ceremony in their traditional territory near Houston, B.C. which briefly blocked access for Coastal GasLink workers.

homeless encampment at Quinsam road to be served notice

The two incidents are unrelated. On October 8th, a homeless shelter in the forest behind the Vineyard Christian Fellowship Church, in Campbell River, caught fire. The blaze started in the structure’s homemade fireplace. Neither of the two occupants were injured, but RCMP Cst. Maury Tyre said the fire easily have spread to nearby buildings. The day before this, the Campbell River Mirror reported that the homeless encampment at Quinsam road will soon be served with a notice to vacate.

Cortes Island Director Suing The Strathcona Regional District

In an ongoing legal saga, Cortes Island regional director Noba Anderson is suing the Strathcona Regional District to cover legal costs and to strike down disciplinary measures against her by the district’s board in connection to a lawsuit last year.
