In 2015, Paul Shore took his eight-year-old daughter to test drive an electric vehicle. It was their first time in one. Instead of the usual grrrrrs and coughs of a gasoline-fuelled engine, the car gurgled and hummed – like it was delighted.

Back at the dealership, Jashia stepped out, wrapped her arms around the hood, and hugged the car. She said it had a “heart beep.”

Transportation Safety Board probing train derailment which crashed car loaded with hydrochloric acid in Port Coquitlam yard

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) is investigating a trail derailment in Port Coquitlam which caused a car loaded with hydrochloric acid to leave the tracks.

The incident occurred on April 12, just after 3 a.m. at the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) yard. Company was handling an assignment of 15 cars, when five cars derailed on their sides.

What difference are the new Hybrid e-Ferries making?

Wind speeds of up to 35 kph were recorded on Quadra Island on Easter Sunday. For passengers crossing on the 11:50 AM from Cortes Island, this meant more than a two and a half hour delay at the Quathiaski Cove Terminal before they could cross over to Campbell River.    

Why were the two new hybrid-eferries kept in port while the Tachek continued to sail between Cortes and Quadra Islands?

A ferry worker explained it in terms of different wind conditions.

Action Group advocates for province-wide transit service

A Nelson activist group is calling for a province-wide travel coach system in order to dovetail into the Province’s Clean Transportation Action Plan.

The Nelson and Area Action Group for Better Public Transportation claims a public inter-city bus system is one of the more important aspects in lowering emissions in the province.

Will B.C.’s shift to clean transportation take rural communities along for the ride? ​​​​​​​

The B.C. government needs to ensure rural and Indigenous communities are not left in the dust as the province shifts gears to achieve a net-zero future and a clean transportation network, a coalition of climate and community groups say. 

The province is in the process of shaping its Clean Transportation Action Plan (CTAP), but so far, B.C.’s core strategy to reduce emissions is making the switch to single-passenger electric vehicles in urban areas, says Eric Doherty, a transportation planning consultant and member of Climate Justice Victoria.
