If Island Health executives get their way, the new Comox Valley Hospital could lose all of its onsite clinical pathologist services sometime next year, a move that area doctors and elected officials believe will further diminish patient care on the North Island.

Campbell River Hospital Lab Needs Your Support

Citizens for Quality Health Care – the North Vancouver Island health care advocacy group whose petitions and actions helped bring about new hospitals in Campbell River and the Comox Valley and free parking at both hospitals – is asking people to take action regarding an urgent and serious situation at the Campbell River Hospital Lab.

As a result of changes made by the Vancouver Island Health Authority to lab services in the Campbell River Hospital, the lab itself is in peril and the lab at the Comox Valley Hospital is also in danger.

Marine Weather Stations Offline

Whether you work, play or travel on the ocean, knowing what the weather will do is important. That is why MP Rachel Blaney has been working with local stakeholders to hold Environment Canada to account. For about a year, Environment Canada’s Fanny Island weather station hasn’t reported and earlier this summer, the Sentry Shoal weather station went offline too. Fanny Island is the only sea-level weather station between the Comox and Powell River waters all the way to Port Hardy. Sentry Shoal is the main weather station where the Strait opens up, and provides the most accurate marine weather for the Comox, Campbell River and Powell River areas.
