Squirrel Cove resident Nancy Beach sent in these pictures of her husband Loyd on his electric trike, with the notation, “Happy belated Canada…. er…. Earth Day. Supporting Cortes Forest, B.C. Old Growth, the Canadian & U.S. Constitutions, Human Rights, Nature, Beyond War, Divine inspiration, Fun in the sun, singin’, dancin’ & on & on …….. “

A quick google search revealed there were Earth Day events on Cortes.
- Cortes Island School students collected 4 industrial-sized garbage bags of refuse from Mansons Spit in the morning, then enjoyed an afternoon outside.
- Cortes Wild invited everyone to bring leaves, cones, stones, pondwater, bones or insects down to the ECOlab at the Linnaea Farm Education Center, where they could look at them through a microscope.

There were also a couple of work bees in Campbell River:
- Local residents were invited to join volunteers from ‘Adopt a Trail’ in the Beaver Lodge Forest Lands, for a work bee between 4 and 7 PM.
- Ron Ritchey and his wife spent Earth Day picking up trash from an ecologically sensitive area of Campbell River. They collected 2.5 bags between Tyee Spit and Haig Brown House. “It’s just as easy to throw your stuff into a garbage can as it is to feel guilty about throwing something out your window,” he told the Campbell River Mirror .
