The next four years could be crucial, if we want to get on the path to a sustainable economy. In this morning’s interview, I interview Guy Dauncey, Founder of the BC Sustainable Energy Association, about a guideline he sent out to help people decide how shall we vote on November 15?

How Shall We Vote On November 15?

“All the indications are that we are hurtling towards an increase in global temperature that is going to push us past the two degrees celsius mark. The energy we are releasing into the atmosphere every day is the equivalent of 400,000 Hiroshima bombs. [That is] like four explosions every second. That’s the data from James Hansen, NASA’s top climate scientist. We are pumping that heat into the atmosphere by burning fossil fuels,” he explained.

“Right now, if we want to stop hurtling past that two degrees increase, we need to be reducing our emissions by up to 10% every year and every year we do not do that the number increases.”

The key to doing this on the local level is changing the ways we travel and heat our buildings. We can reduce a third of British Columbia’s by actions on a municipal level.
