CKTZ News Report: Some of you may have noticed the smoke yesterday. Though there were initial concerns about the threats to buildings, no structures were lost. At this point, the Read Island fire is between two and three hectares in extent.

According to BC Wildfire Fire information officer Jeanne Larsen, “Fire crews worked overnight on the fire and they are working on it this morning. We have nine initial attack crew personal. We have five basic fire suppression personal, two fallers, first aid personal, two helicopters and a response officer on site.”

She added, “At this point of the morning the fire is very quiet and it isn’t causing that much of a threat [to buildings]. Once the heating of the day starts and the winds pick up, it is going to be challenging for the fire crews. … They are well prepared for that and they do have two helicopters to assist with bucketing. We will just have to see how it goes through the day.”
