Many of you probably know Linda Solomon Wood as the Editor-in-Chief of the CANADA’S NATIONAL OBSERVER, but the award winning investigative journalist lived on Cortes Island for five years after 9/11. While she currently lives in Vancouver, Linda returns every summer. I recently had a chance to interview her about her life and why, as the editor of a national publication, she recently hired a reporter to cover Cortes and Quadra Islands.

Laura Balducci’s Art
The audio version of this story opens with a clip from Laura Balducci’s art installation “The Other-Side Presents That Wall,” which was at the Old School House Art Gallery on Cortes Island in the summer of 2016. The video of another of her multi-media performances, “Sense That Sin” was part of a show last month. Laura is a film maker, promoter, curator, painter, doll-maker, hair dresser, make-up artist and the former lead singer of a female punk band. She promotes the Old School House Art Gallery through her website and Facebook page and is curating the annual member’s show, SPACE, which opens at 6 PM on Friday, July 27, 2018. This morning’s interview is devoted to Laura Balducci’s art.

Our first urban walks were around the Seawall, or else False Creek, in Vancouver. Over the past couple of decades we’ve tasted some of the visual delights of cities like Seattle, Canterbury and Quebec. However one of our favourites is closer to home. This past year my wife and I returned to some of our favourite urban walks in Victoria BC.
