The Green Candidate for Powell River – North Island

Screen-shot-2014-03-18-at-3.43.47-PM1It has been two and a half years since Brenda Sayers came to national attention, as the leader of the “Hupacasath’s” court challenge of the Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement (FIPA) with China. Sayers agrees they were leading the fight, but it was really a people’s struggle for all Canadians. They were not able to stop the Harper Government from making a secret deal which she says, “gives another country control over our resources, our labor laws and how how we protect our environment.” In the process, Sayers came into contact with Elizabeth May and the Green Party. Now she is the Green Candidate for Powell River – North Island.

Time For BC To Withdraw From The NEB Process

An interview with Larissa Stendie, author of Sierra Club BC report “Credibility Crises: Major Flaws Threaten Credibility Of NEB Assessment Process For Kinder Morgan Trans Mountain Pipeline And Tankers Proposal.” She maintains the province’s interests are not being looked after in the proposed Trans Mountain Pipeline hearings and it is time for BC to withdraw from the NEB Process

Canada is one of the top Nations for Renewable Investments

Canada is one of the top Nations for Renewable Investments. It ranked #5 in the Renewable Energy Country Attractiveness Index (RECAI) last September. The total for investments jumped 26% in 2014, over the previous year, to $9 billion.

Lynne Quarmby Seeks The Green Party Nomination

This mornings interview is with Simon Fraser Biology professor Lynne Quarmby, who recently came to the media’s attention because of her stand against Kinder Morgan on Burnaby Mountain. She had not fully realized the extent to which Canadians are disenfranchised. Though 70% of the population were opposed to this project, they had no voice in the matter. This led to her decision to “enter the belly of the beast.” Lynne Quarmby seeks the Green party nomination for the new riding of Burnaby North – Seymour.

What is Canada Missing?

Canada will not meet its emissions targets for 2020. There has been improvements since 2005, but the oil sector is expected to produce 28% more emissions by the end of this decade. Prime Minister Stephen Harper said he would like to regulate the oil sands, but that “would be crazy” in light of economic developments. Despite the global trend towards adopting renewable energy and smart technologies, the Canadian government continued to tie this nation’s economic future  to the fossil fuel industry. So what is Canada missing?
