Q̓ʷalayu House: A Place For Families When Care Is Far From Home

Vancouver Island father Nick Chowdhury is grateful and excited that families who must travel to Campbell River to get essential medical care for their children will soon be welcomed at a home away from home. Q̓ʷalayu House, which will be adjacent to the North Island Hospital, breaks ground Thursday, and will shelter expectant mothers and members of their family from the northern region of Vancouver Island.

Logger Mike Reminds Us To Remain VIGILANT

As of June 24th, there were 131 known cases of COVID 19 on Vancouver Island. 95% of these have recovered. Many hope there will soon be no reports of new cases. The day after Premier Horgan announced British Columbians can safely travel around the province, Campbell River’s downtown icon adopted a new look. Logger Mike wears a mask to remind us of the need to remain vigilant.

BC’s Deadliest Month Ever For Illicit Drug Overdoses

British Columbia’s health officer fought back tears as she addressed the province’s deadliest month ever for illicit drug overdoses at a COVID-19 briefing Thursday.

In May, 170 people died from overdoses, as the supply of street drugs continues to be increasingly toxic, the coroner’s office reported.
