4,855 visitors made 12,046 PV; 160 daily & 1,301 weekly users; av. 5:26 per session in Greater Campbell River; Podcasts – 1,351 plays.

1,837 posts and index pages were viewed on Cortes Currents: The aggregate count for Cortes Airstrip: The Protest and Monday’s Townhall Meeting (May 30, 2024, average session 3:10) reached 872 pageviews (PV); There were also numerous plays of SoundCloud’s older podcasts, the aggregate count for Experiencing Bioluminescence with Cortes Kayaks reached reached 350 PV.

Top 3 sources of Traffic – from Independent Analytics

Visitors came from 47 different sources, the top 3 being:

  1. Google: 2,387 visitors made 4,212 pageviews (PV) – averaging just under 2 ea., lasting 5:39.
  2. Direct Traffic: 1,095 visitors made 3,152 PV – averaging just under 3 ea., lasting 6:42. (The 151 people in my e-mailout list appear to be part of this group.)
  3. Tideline: 496 people made 2,001 PV – averaging just over 4 ea. lasting 7:35.

Google’s G4A Analytics program reported 788 returning visitors. According to stats from Google’s retired Universal Analytics program (available in monthly reports prior to July 2023) roughly half of these would be daily users.

Visitors from 73 nations came to Cortes Currents, the top 4 nations were:

  1. Canada – 3,635 people made 10,229 PV (av 4:49)
  2. United States – 616 people made 955 PV (av 3:27)
  3. United Kingdom – 118 people made 165 PV (av 1:05)
  4. Germany – 69 people made 111 PV (av 0:36)

Visitors came from 700 cities and ‘not set’ areas, the top 4 Canadian locations were:

  1. CKTZ’s listening area – 953 people:
    • Greater Campbell River (includes Cortes & Quadra Islands) – 559 people, averaging 5:26 min per session
    • Undesignated (‘not set’) rural area presumably part of CKTZ listening area – 394 people, averaging 2:09
    • Powell River – 81 people, averaging 1:29
    • Comox – 14 people, averaging 3:03 min
  2. Vancouver – 918 people, averaging 2:43 per session
  3. Victoria – 125 People, averaging 1:27 

SoundCloud – Revised to 1,276 (from 2,368 because of suspected bot visits) 

Suspected bot sites

Boardman, Washington and Columbus are known robotic centres. Bot visits are typically short (0-5s) and with a high bounce rate (up to 100%). As SoundCloud does not record the duration of plays or bounce rate, I checked Cortes Currents for visits from these cities. I found 4 visits from Washington, lasting an average of 32s, with 100% bounce rate. This suggests that at least one of the visitors may have been human, but I would rather not have a misleading tally. There were 11 visits averaging 5s with 100% bounce rate from Columbus and 5 visits averaging 4s with 100% bounce rate from Boardman – which seems more typical of a bot.

There are no Cortes Currents listings for Etobicoke, which is most likely recorded under Toronto – where a lot of human visitors come from. However Etobicoke is also a known bot centre.
