BC Outlines Plan to Begin Lifting COVID-19 Restrictions

British Columbia’s indoor mask mandate and vaccine card will remain in place as the province begins to ease pandemic public health orders on  Thursday and transition to a strategy focused on personal risk  management.

The Omicron variant, which  took hold amid loosened public health measures and drove the province’s  fifth wave of COVID-19, is waning enough to look at a less “restrictive”  means of pandemic management, provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie  Henry said Tuesday.

Myth busted: Trudeau is not being sued for crimes against humanity

Upon entering a Cortes Island store recently, I was informed that Prime Minister Trudeau, the Pope, Queen of England and a number of other prominent world figures are being sued for crimes against humanity. 

“That’s something they don’t tell you,” said my informant, knowingly. “You don’t shut the world down because of a cold.”

She was misinformed on both counts.

As Omicron spreads, the number of unreported COVID cases keeps growing ( local data)

According to the provincial government’s Daily Update, there are now at least 3,906 active COVID cases on Vancouver Island. This statistic is low. The number of people who are believed to have COVID and gone into self isolation, but have not yet been tested, is growing

“As many people have noted in the past few weeks, we reached our capacity both from testing,  from the lab equipment, from the personnel and the reagents,” said BC Provincial Health Officer Bonnie Henry on Friday.

BC Should Be Doing More Rapid Testing, Experts Say

As the highly transmissible Omicron variant takes hold, British Columbia is one of the only provinces not making rapid antigen tests  widely available to the public.

Rapid tests can be  administered at home and measure whether someone has COVID-19 and is  likely to infect others. They return results in as little as 15 minutes.

B.C. has received three kinds of tests from  the federal government: Abbott ID Now, Abbott PanBio and BD Veritor.  None are packaged for use at home.
