Upon entering a Cortes Island store recently, I was informed that Prime Minister Trudeau, the Pope, Queen of England and a number of other prominent world figures are being sued for crimes against humanity.
“That’s something they don’t tell you,” said my informant, knowingly. “You don’t shut the world down because of a cold.”
She was misinformed on both counts.
Firstly, according to the World Health Organization, this ‘cold’ is responsible for the death of more than 5.8 million human beings.
As of 9 AM Wednesday February 16th, Health Canada reported 35,787 deaths in Canada. The British Columbia COVID -19 Dashboard, stated there have been 2,777 deaths in British Columbia and 205 on Vancouver Island.
There are numerous reports that the actual numbers are much higher.
For example, a recent report in ‘Nature’ states that the actual number of deaths around the world may be double or even quadruple the official figures.
The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation reported that the global tally has reached 6.1 million deaths by January 27th. They estimate the actual number is closer to 13.3 million. Their projections for Canada suggest more than 61,000 deaths.
Never-the-less, the economic consequences of the ‘great lockdown’ declared because of COVID are staggering. The IMF says the world has been in the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression. They expect losses to the the global economy to be around $13.8 trillion by 2024.
That’s a little background on the ‘cold.’
Secondly, the lawsuit she cited appears to have been dismissed as frivolous .
According to ‘APF Fact Check,’ there was an attempt to sue Trudeau and other world leaders for crimes against humanity.
They traced the report that Trudeau is being sued for crimes against humanity back to a website called the Philosophers Stone. The headline states, “Canadian Supreme Court has accepted the case for Crimes Against Humanity presented by Dr. Reiner Fuellmich, R.F. Kennedy jnr, & Dalores Cahill.”
An update to that article states, “this is not a real case before the courts.”
The Supreme Court of Canada informed APF that it did not receive this case.
However the suit was brought before the Ontario Superior Court, which informed AFP it had been dismissed under Rule 2.1, which states that “the court may, on its own initiative, stay or dismiss a proceeding if the proceeding appears on its face to be frivolous or vexatious or otherwise an abuse of the process of the court.”
A second update to the Philosophers Stone article links to a BC Supreme Court suit against Provincial Health Officer Bonnie Henry.
Justice Robert Jenkins dismissed the case on November 18, 2021, stating that Henry was using the authority granted her by the province for the protection and health of the province.
According to the Rome statute of the International Court, “crime against humanity’ means any of the following acts when committed as part of a widespread or systematic attack directed against any civilian population, with knowledge of the attack:
- Murder;
- Extermination;
- Enslavement;
- Deportation or forcible transfer of population;
- Imprisonment or other severe deprivation of physical liberty in violation of fundamental rules of international law;
- Torture;
- Rape, sexual slavery, enforced prostitution, forced pregnancy, enforced sterilization, or any other form of sexual violence of comparable gravity;
- Persecution against any identifiable group or collectivity on political, racial, national, ethnic, cultural, religious, gender as defined in paragraph 3, or other grounds that are universally recognized as impermissible under international law, in connection with any act referred to in this paragraph or any crime within the jurisdiction of the Court;
- Enforced disappearance of persons;
- The crime of apartheid;
- Other inhumane acts of a similar character intentionally causing great suffering, or serious injury to body or to mental or physical health.”
There are no references to having to wear a mask, or produce proof of having been vaccinated before entering an indoor public venue. Nor does it say that Canada must allow people who will not comply with these restrictions to enter the country.
