Kim Paulley (part 2): George Sirk, Cortes Island and the rebirth of her career

Her singing career appeared to be a thing of the past, when Kim Paulley came to Cortes Island in 1992. The release of ‘Straight From The Heart’ had been promising, but she turned to Classical music. While there had been ‘fantastic’ moments between 1985-90, there was also the toil of auditions (and sometimes not getting the part). Her career was on hold when a friend  recommended the retreats at Hollyhock, where George Sirk was a naturalist guide.

Feb 25: The Lip Sync is back

CKTZ’s Lip Sync returns to the stage of Mansons Hall at 8 PM on Saturday, February 25. 

 “Over the last three years I’ve heard from people who want it back: ‘So when are you doing a lip sync?’ We haven’t been able to do it until now,” explained Howie Roman.

“It is without a doubt, one of the highlights that I would point to in my time on Cortes. I just love it when  that many people get involved in something. It’s about 30 nowadays, performers and crew.”

Meinsje, Living Between Two Worlds

From the beginning, Meinsje was been a prominent voice in Cortes Island’s artistic community. She taught art at the Linnaea school for fifteen years and is a director of the Old School House Art Gallery. Meinsje’s “Dream Caravan” dance troop, her performances at Cortes Island Lip Syncs and Cabarets, puppetry and paintings continue to captivate viewers. In this morning’s interview, Meinsje describes what it was like living between two worlds.
