The Craig Peterson Report

Shortly after fourteen Cortes residents filed a legal petition against their Regional Director, the Strathcona Regional District (SRD) hired Craig Peterson of Creative Solutions Risk Management Consulting to investigate the charges. The SRD just released a heavily redacted copy of his findings. The Craig Peterson Report did not find evidence supporting the legal petition.

Cortes Island Grant-in-Aid Debate Moved In Camera

The Electoral Area Service Committee (EASC) continues to thwart Cortes Island’s Grants in Aid from going forward. At their May 8th committee meeting, three of the four EASC Directors (Abram, Leigh & Whalley) did not acknowledge the Cortes applications, in an obviously concerted attempt to prevent the applications from reaching the Stathcona Regional District Board. At the May 22nd Board Meeting, the remaining EASC Director (Noba Anderson from Cortes Island) made a motion for the SRD board to receive the applications. Quadra Island Director Jim Abram responded with a motion to defer the matter. This was secounded by Oyster Bay – Buttle Lake Director Brenda Leigh. They were defeated. This prompted Directors Abram and Leigh to recuse themselves “due to legal ramifications.” After the board approved receipt of the applications,  the Cortes Island Grant-in-Aid debate moved in camera.

Canada’s New Green Deal

The idea was born in the United States. Canada’s Green new deal launched in Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal earlier this month. According to a poll of 2,000 Canadians conducted by Abacus Data, as much as 61% of the nation supports the idea of moving to 100% Green energy. There is much more of course. Town hall meetings are being held across the nation. At 6 PM on on June 14, Canada’s New Green Deal comes to Cortes Island.

Pato Banton & The Now Generation

Coming To Cortes & Quadra Islands

Pato Banton & The Now Generation are coming to Cortes Island in a special fundraiser for the Cortes Garden Club. they will be performing at Mansons Hall on June 10 and Cortes Elementary Junior Secondary School on June 11. Their last performance, before returning to the United States, is at the Heriot Bay Inn on June 12.
