Northwest B.C. church group calls on province to rethink forestry policies

A Terrace church group is calling on the provincial government to rethink its forestry practices and “radical policies” and invest in sustainable options. 

The Social Justice Working Group, made up of members of Knox United Church in Terrace is concerned about the province issuing permits to clear-cut primary forests to produce wood pellets for export.

Indigenous MLA slams Leonardo DiCaprio for ‘misinformed’ support of pipeline opposition

There is little time left to change, says Suzuki

According to CHEK News, hundreds of people marched from Centennial Square to the steps of the B.C. Legislature on Saturday, November 20th. The “Funeral for the Future” was organized by Extinction Rebellion Vancouver Island, and featured Dr David Suzuki as a speaker. 

“No more than one or a few decades remain before the chance to avert the threat will be lost,” said the former host of the Nature of Things. “We are in a sixth  spasm of species loss. In May, a United Nations report announced a million more species are in imminent danger of extinction … There’s no mystery to why species are vanishing so rapidly. We are the cause. There are too many of us demanding too much from Mother Earth.”

B.C. MLA calls for protection of CGL pipeline workers, slams ‘arrogant’ NDP government

Following two new arrests at the Coastal GasLink (CGL) pipeline site near Houston this week, Skeena BC Liberal MLA Ellis Ross came forward in support of pipeline workers and spoke about protecting them.

“The workers are not at fault here. They are just doing the job they were supposed to do under a contract with the company. They should not be exposed to anything, other than just doing a job that was lawful.”

On Oct. 24, B.C. will elect 87 members of the legislative assembly (MLAs). This comes after current Premier John Horgan called a snap election, leaving many to make quick decisions as to whether or not they would run. IndigiNews reviewed all of the candidates running and determined that there are 10 indigenous candidates participating in this provincial election.  Here’s what we know about them:
