B.C. MLA calls for protection of CGL pipeline workers, slams ‘arrogant’ NDP government

Following two new arrests at the Coastal GasLink (CGL) pipeline site near Houston this week, Skeena BC Liberal MLA Ellis Ross came forward in support of pipeline workers and spoke about protecting them.

“The workers are not at fault here. They are just doing the job they were supposed to do under a contract with the company. They should not be exposed to anything, other than just doing a job that was lawful.”

Star Trek captain chides B.C. premier over old-growth forests

B.C. Premier John Horgan, a self-proclaimed Star Trek fan, has disappointed a high-ranking member of the federation who is calling for action to protect the province’s old-growth forests. 

Canadian actor William Shatner, who famously played Capt. James T. Kirk in the original Star Trek TV series, is one of more than 200 celebrities, scientists, artists, and Indigenous and political leaders who have joined a campaign to pressure the NDP government to protect B.C.’s irreplaceable and iconic tall trees.

73 complaints against the RCMP at Fairy Creek

The federal agency that holds RCMP to account has received a total of 73 public complaints associated with enforcement measures at the Fairy Creek old-growth logging blockades in British Columbia, says the legal team representing the activist group.

First Nations urged to boycott BC’s ‘DISINGENUOUS’ forestry plan

First Nations should boycott BC’s current consultation process around modernizing the province’s forestry policy, an Indigenous forestry advisory organization recommends. 

The short timeline and the nature of the consultation process offered by the province is disingenuous, said Chief Bill Williams, president of the BC First Nations Forestry Council (FNFC).

Fairy Creek celebration at the Provincial Legislature
