Danny Ramadan has an intriguing way of answering a question. 

“Let me tell you a story,” the Syrian-Canadian author, public speaker and longtime advocate for queer refugees says.

Ramadan is in every way a storyteller, a hakawati, who builds lyrical narrative around dichotomies; contrasting beauty with ugliness, tenderness with violence, love and loathing, all interwoven with memories bitter and sweet.

The Quadra Singers released a video of the world premiere performance of Dr. John Hooper’s composition Corona Chorus, which they sang at the Quadra Community Centre on December 10th and 11th, 2021.

Quadra Singers hold in-person concert

The Quadra Singers first in-person concert since the beginning of the pandemic was at the Quadra Community Centre on December 10th and 11th. 

“We had almost sold out concerts, both nights. Our tickets went on sale and in Quathiaski Cove’s ‘Inspirations.’ We had pretty well sold out both nights,” said Valerie van Veen, one of the singers.

Malibu Roots – back to the beginning!

So what is the back story of this series?  What are the histories and motivations of the characters?  Let’s start at Day One of our voyage, before our main characters ever met, before they formed a crew and before they encountered the Norse goddess Frigg, Emily Dickinson, the Grand Galloping Goof, and that surly server at the Caucasian Cafe.  Even before they met Sarah Palin repeatedly.  This is our Roots episode.
