BC Greens Launch Hearings on Health-Care ‘Crisis’

Doctors’ groups push for truth in advertising when it comes to fossil fuels

In the late 1980s, the federal government banned all cigarette ads — photos making a carcinogenic product look appealing went against public health advice. Now, many physicians are saying the same should apply to fossil fuel advertising.

The Quadra Project: losing our minds

Just when we need our entire minds, we seem to be losing them. This is the considered opinion of Johann Hari, a British-Swiss writer and journalist, writing in a Guardian Weekly feature, “Focus (If You Still Can)” (Jan. 7, 2022).

It’s not that we’re losing all our minds, just about 20%, according to studies. This is a critical amount considering that we’re confronting some of the most serious threats to our survival in the history of human civilization, and the capabilities we need to make crucially important decisions are precisely the ones being compromised.

‘We are losing a whole generation of Canadians’: Bill to curb toxic drug deaths defeated

The grieving moms who headed to Ottawa Wednesday to urge federal MPs of all stripes to support an NDP bill designed to tackle the deadly toxic drug crisis found their pleas fell on deaf ears. 

Most Liberal MPs, and Conservative members without exception, voted against Bill C-216 to decriminalize the simple possession of illegal drugs nationally and shape a federal strategy for safer alternatives to poisoned street supply.
