Stark poll results ‘speak for themselves’: Political scientist Survey says Canadians fear for country’s future

Editor’s note: 201 of the 1,518 respondents to this nationwide poll were from British Columbia.

Sixty-six per cent of Canadians fear for the future of the country after witnessing political unrest for the past three weeks, according to  recent polls released by Maru Public Opinion.

Additionally, 82 per cent of Canadians say there is no way the  protesting in Ottawa should have been able to last as long as it has.

Conservatives will vote against implementing Emergencies Act

Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo Conservative MP Frank Caputo will vote against implementing the Emergencies Act to address weeks-long Freedom Convoy protests against COVID-19 vaccine mandates that have resulted in a vehicle-clogged downtown Ottawa and border blockades across the country.

“I will be opposing it,” Caputo told KTW, arguing implementing the act should be legislation of the last resort.

It is the stance interim Conservative Leader Candace Bergen has said her party is taking as Parliament on Thursday (Feb. 17) began debating the federal Liberal government’s temporary special measures, which were invoked Monday for the first time since the act was created in 1988 to replace the War Measures Act.

Northwest B.C. pipeline opposition group submits report on militarization of Indigenous land to UN panel

Gidimt’en Checkpoint, the group opposing the construction of the Coastal GasLink Pipeline (CGL) on Wet’suwet’en territory in northwest B.C., have submitted a report of their ongoing issues to an expert panel of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC).

New ‘Southern Wind Foundation’ launched to honour Billie Johnson and other MMIWG

(ANNews) – Marless Johnson is a mother on a mission to get justice for her daughter, Billie Johnson. Trial dates are set for March 20, 2023, to April 2, 2023. Jury selection takes place this month.

Billie Johnson was living in Edmonton at the time of her death and in a relationship with Kenneth Courtorielle, 35, who has been charged with second-degree murder in Johnson’s death.
