Jan. 18 heralds the start of tandem ferry service between Campbell River on Vancouver Island and Quadra Island: the number of sailings per week on the route will increase from 105 to up to 210 during peak hours.

BC Ferries has announced that January 18th marks the beginning of two vessel service between Campbell River on Vancouver Island and Quadra Island. The ships are part of the new hybrid diesel/electric Island Class series. They are replacing the 57 year old MV Powell River Queen currently operating on the route.

And that rings equally true for folks living and working on B.C.’s rugged Central Coast, who also depend on a goose for yuletide spirit.
Like Santa’s sleigh — and sporting the same signature red-and-white colour scheme — a “flock” of Grumman Goose aircraft brave rain, sleet and snow to get people and presents home for the holidays.
From Port Hardy on northern Vancouver Island, Wilderness Seaplanes operates the last commercial fleet of the historic aircraft, which fly year-round and act as a lifeline for more than 50 villages, resorts and work camps along the West Coast.

Around 10:15 AM on Saturday, I was involved in a five car ‘near accident’ on Squirrel Cove Road. It wasn’t a pile up because each of us managed to avoid hitting the other cars as we were sliding backwards. At least two of us went into the ditch to accomplish this.
Someone just sent in this photo which depicts four of the vehicles. The fifth was a little red car tucked in neatly behind the white truck at the back of the row.
