Ferry traffic getting back to pre-COVID levels

BC Ferry traffic on both the Cortes and Campbell River ferries were almost back to pre-COVID levels in 2021. 

20,000 more vehicles sailed from Campbell River than the previous year and  there were almost 4,600 more from Cortes Island.

Walking, cycling and mass transit in Campbell River

According to Campbell River’s Sustainability Community Plan, 12% all trips to work within the city were to consist of walking, cycling or transit by 2020. They hope to increase this number to a third by 2060. In today’s interview the city’s transportation specialist, Melissa Heidema, talks about Campbell River’s shift to alternate forms of transportation.

Boat catches fire close to Refuge Cove

At 9:08 AM on the morning of February 9th, 2022, a Squirrel Cove resident phoned the Coast Guard about a fire just north of Refuge Cove, on West Redonda Island. What she thought might be a house engulfed by fire turned out to be a 34 foot wood and fiberglass boat close to the shore.

BC Ferries warns dependent coastal communities of more sailing disruptions due to severe weather, pandemic

High winds and above average snowfall this winter has left provincial transportation systems challenged, and BC Ferries has now warned residents to expect more sailing disruptions this winter.
