Grant to help take stock of walking and cycling routes on Cortes Island

The Strathcona Regional District (SRD) received a $20,000 grant from the Union of BC Municipalities to take an inventory of Cortes Island’s existing walking and cycling routes and plan for future development. The SRD made the announcement Aug. 17.

First of two Hybrid/e-ferries for Campbell River run arrives in BC, second on its way

How BC can expand in the escalating global green economy

B.C. can leverage competitive advantages to grow its cleantech industry and take advantage of a reinvigorated and rapidly escalating global green economy, according to pundits.

But to do so, the province must increase investments in clean energy, address gaps, and be more aggressive about meeting its own climate targets to trigger more innovation and growth in the sector.

Passing Cyclists: legalities and safety

Cortes Currents has received several reports of drivers passing cyclists without due care.  

Currents sought to increase clarity on what is expected of cyclists and drivers who wish to operate their vehicles safely and follow the laws of British Columbia.  And so we reached Corporal Chris Voller at the Quadra island detachment of the RCMP for advice on the matter.

Corporal Voller was pleased to discuss legal and safety matters around cyclist-driver interactions.
