The fourth of BC Ferries Island Class ferry was launched early Thursday morning, at Damen Shipyards Galati, in Romania. The yet-to-be named ship is the second hybrid electric destined for the Campbell River – Quadra Island route.

A West Coast MP wants the federal transport minister to ditch fines in the thousands of dollars and allow BC Ferries passengers to remain in their vehicles on enclosed car decks to protect themselves from COVID-19 despite regulations against the practice.

One of BC Ferries new Island Class Hybrid electric vessels starts a three day trial run on the Campbell River – Quadra Island route on Thursday, Dec 3. The Island Aurora will undergoing tests for operational efficiencies, loading times and sailing intervals. The results will be used to help draw up schedules for 2021.

Klaus Uebelacker thinks mechanics are afraid of electric cars.
The German-born, Maple Ridge, B.C., resident has spent his career fiddling around with cars. Uebelacker, 53, worked as a Mercedes-Benz mechanic for more than 20 years before moving to his current line of work, training roadside assistance providers at BCAA, while also teaching in Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s automotive program.
