A week ago, on Monday April 19, Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland presented Canada’s budget for the fiscal year 2021-22 to the House of Commons. Since the Finance Minister delivered that speech, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau‘s minority Liberal Government has survived two non-confidence motions. They pertained to amendments. This morning, Monday April 26, the House will be asked to approve the Budget as a whole. This is expected to prompt yet another non-confidence motion. The NDP party has promised to support the government and in this morning’s interview Rachel Blaney, the MP for North Island – Powell River talks about the aspects of Canada’s 2021-22 budget that she thinks work for her constituents, and those that do not.

Women’s Resource Centre Update
In March 2021 I had the opportunity to interview Tanya Henck and James Foster about the work they are both doing in support of women on Cortes Island. This article presents some highlights from that interview. (For a more complete story, listen to the radio version.)
Tanya is the founder and coordinator of the Cortes Island Women’s Resource Centre; readers/listeners may remember her from a previous interview in April of 2020. At that time, official acknowledgement of the Covid-19 pandemic was just ramping up. Almost a year later — and what a year! — I asked Tanya how her work had been affected by the pandemic. After almost a year of delays. the Quadra Island Seniors Housing Project is close to opening.
The 16 unit building, beside Q-Cove Plaza in Quathiaski Cove, was almost ready last Spring.

Rainbow Ridge debt free: All loans can now be repaid
Donations to the Rainbow Ridge affordable housing project, on Cortes Island, have reached the point that all loans can now be repaid.
A number of people loaned the project large sums of money, at rates as low as 0% interest.
