Leucadia National Corp has decided it will no longer fund the proposed $6 billion LNG terminal in Warrenton, at the mouth of the Columbia River. A determined coalition of local residents, fishermen and environmentalists blocking their way. Now the ten-year-long fight against Oregon LNG is over.

McKenna Made The Wrong Call On Woodfibre LNG

Though Justin Trudeau promised to fix Canada’s broken environmental assessment process during the last election, yesterday his government gave another signal this may not happen. Catherine McKenna, the Minister of Environment and Climate Change,  announced  “that the proposed Woodfibre LNG Project, located near Squamish, British Columbia, is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.” Critics point to flaws in the analysis of impacts to herring stocks and the province’s rising emissions, suggesting McKenna Made the wrong call on Woodfibre LNG

Lelu Island Will More Than Double Canada’s LNG Emissions

The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency’s (CEAA) draft report on Petrona’s proposed Lelu island terminal, at the mouth of BC’s Skeena river,  states that, ” … if the Project were to proceed, it would be amongst the largest single point sources of greenhouse gas emissions in the country.” Lelu Island will more than double Canada’s LNG emissions.

Tsawwassen First Nation Voted against LNG

The most recent of British Columbia’s 21 proposed LNG facilities has just been taken off the books. Between 60 and 70 LNG  Carriers were to have loaded up at Tsawwassen every year. Though it is not known how many would have gone to band members, there were 50 to 100 full time jobs. Only at a vote taken at 11 PM on December 15, 53% of Tsawwassen First Nation voted against LNG development.

Push For A Fraser Delta LNG Terminal

A controversial plan to bring more than 200 LNG carriers a year up the Fraser, to WesPac Tilbury Marine Jetty in Delta, is still very much alive.  The comment period ends on Saturday, December 20.  If you live in the area and want to learn more about the push for a Fraser Delta LNG Terminal, there are two meetings being held on December 14 and 16.
