Quadra RCMP reports for the two weeks ending on May 8

The latest Quadra RCMP update mentioned five episodes.

The most dramatic was about a man who went missing on Cortes Island a week ago, but the RCMP now assure us he has been found alive and well. They did not want to release any more details, for privacy issues, but did say he was located somewhere off island.

One of the other reports concerns a TELUS truck which tried to jump the BC Ferry line. When the driver was told to go to the back of the line, he “started swearing aggressively at the worker, drove his vehicle toward her, and stopped. The matter is still under investigation.”

A motion to hire Pley and Associates passed without comment at the April 27, 2022 SRD Board meeting.

The rural housing and service needs survey

The Strathcona Regional District is in the midst of a 30 day survey of rural housing insecurity and service needs. There was a network of volunteers ready to work with them on Cortes Island and individual volunteers on Quadra, but some areas can only be reached through social media. The survey comes to an end on Wednesday, May 11, 2022.

This relatively recent sport only reached North America during the 1980s and Buerge is not aware of reaching the waters off Quadra Island more than two decades ago.

“Surfing sea kayaks is a pretty kind of niche-y thing. You really only  see it in a few areas in the world and we’re lucky enough to have that amazing feature in our backyard that’s perfect for us,” he explained.
