Kwakiutl First Nation says stop logging on Douglas Treaty land

Kwakiutl First Nation’s Chief and Council are calling on the government to stop Western Forest Products (WFP) from logging on Douglas Treaty land, a two-mile-thick strip of shoreline between Port McNeill and Port Hardy.

Another one of North Vancouver Island’s 26 Active COVID cases identified himself over Facebook last week.  Lawrence O’Connor is a stock car driver who contracted the disease while participating in a benefit race for Amnesty International in the Arizona Desert.

Kwakwaka’wakw doulas reclaim birthing traditions

A group of newly trained Indigenous doulas reclaim their future bringing back birthing traditions

The first birth Indigenous doula Roberta Williams attended also happened to be the first child born in Kwagu’ł territory in over 30 years. Williams, 23, is one of 17 Indigenous doulas trained last year, in what is a new wave of traditional birth knowledge and reclamation.

Port Hardy to Campbell River bus ready to go

Editors note added Dec 22, 2025 – A page on Wavin’ Flags website states it ‘will‘ (future tense) offer trips between Port Hardy and Campbell River three days a week (Tue, Thu & Sat) It is a 3 hour trip, with stops at Port McNeill and Woss, and will cost $100.00.
