The Quadra Project: The Descent of Man

The 1973 television series, The Ascent of Man, by the British mathematician and science historian, Jacob Bronowski, is approaching its 50th anniversary. Its intelligent commentary on the evolution of science in human civilization is still relevant today. However, events in the last few years have imbued Bronowski’s erudite praise of our scientific accomplishments with an unsettling irony.

Local archaeologist Brian Hayden publishes first novel: The Eyes Of The Leopard

Brian Hayden, a Cortes Island local and archaeologist, has published his first novel.

The Eyes Of The Leopard takes place 20,000 years ago in southwestern France during the ice age. The central character is a young teen who tries to adapt to a new community after his family is forced to move from its familiar territory to a new area in search of food.

Archaeology – the science of once and future things

Folk U Radio: 101 Series. Archaeology: the science of once and future things and I am joined in the studio by our neighbour Dr. Brian Hayden, archeologist extraordinatire. Brian got his doctoral degree from the University of Toronto and taught  archaeology at Simon Fraser University for 40 years and is now a Research Associate at the University of British Columbia, fellow of the Royal Society of Canada: and, of course, a professor here at the esteemed Folk University.  His archeological and ethnoarchaeological research has taken him to Australia, Southeast Asia, France, Guatemala, Mexico, Ontario, and here to British Columbia.
