Marc Doll explains what ‘empowering community’ would mean in Area C

Marc Doll was a high school social studies teacher, a community specialist realtor and the president of a community association back in Calgary. Doll, his wife Jen and two daughters left that life behind in 2016. Now he is a regenerative farmer and volunteer firefighter on Quadra Island. He hopes to be elected Regional Director for Area C on Saturday, October 15, 2022.  The tagline on his websites is ‘empower community’ and in the first of a series of articles exploring his positions, Cortes Currents asked what this means.

Quadra island resident Marc Doll running in SRD municipal election

Marc Doll is running to represent Area C in the Strathcona Regional District, covering some of the Discovery Islands and mainland inlets between Vancouver Island and the Mainland, in BC’s upcoming municipal elections.

Quadra and Read Islands are part of Area C with a large concentration of population.

Creating an Integrated Community Sustainability Plan for Area C

The Strathcona Regional District (SRD) is developing an Integrated Community Sustainability Plan (ICSP) for Area C. the Discovery Islands and Mainland Inlets.

Meredith Starkey, the Manager for Parks and Planning, described this as a broad level vision plan which can lead to more specific policies and regulations.

Tiny B.C. coast community launches its first official Pride celebration

A colourful crowd emitting bursts of laughter and bubbles assembled at the elementary school on Quadra Island as the small B.C. coastal community gathered to celebrate the Discovery Islands’ first Pride event on Sunday.  

The festival celebrating 2SLGBTQ+ people and allies on Quadra, Cortes, Read and other neighbouring B.C. islands got underway at noon sharp. Participants young and old streamed from the school grounds to march the two blocks that comprise Quathiaski Cove’s main drag before arriving at the village green for a family-friendly party.
