Port Hardy to Campbell River bus ready to go

Editors note added Dec 22, 2025 – A page on Wavin’ Flags website states it ‘will‘ (future tense) offer trips between Port Hardy and Campbell River three days a week (Tue, Thu & Sat) It is a 3 hour trip, with stops at Port McNeill and Woss, and will cost $100.00. Forest industry purchased $7 billion worth of goods and services from local communities

A new study conducted by BC Council of Forest Industries (COFI) found that in 2019, COFI member companies purchased $7 billion worth of goods and services from nearly 9,900 B.C.–based companies and Indigenous suppliers located in every region of the province.

Campbell River Health Area is relatively COVID free

This program was funded by a grant from the Community Radio Fund of Canada and the Government of Canada’s Local Journalism Initiative. 

Statistics released by the BC Centre for Disease Control show that our area is relatively COVID free.

These are found on a series of maps, and a weekly report, released on Thursday, October 8th. 

However a CHEK news report of two cases at Carihi Secondary School in Campbell River could change this.

Tree-planting IN COVID Times

Sweat sticks, clogged with dust. Mosquitoes whine madly. Muscles are knotted, feet burning, a 20-pound sack of tree seedlings rubs a hip with every trudging step, building on a nasty, season-long blister. It’s been nine hours on this mountainside, with every planted tree worth 17 cents.

Step. Dig. Plant. Step. Dig. Plant.

Finally back at the truck, a mask has to be put on a grimy face, and then it’s back with the same three people as yesterday. And the day before. And the 20 days before that. Tomorrow will see it all repeated.

This is tree-planting in the time of COVID-19.
