Vancouver Island prepares to slip and slide after snow dump

Colleen McDougall feels like she hasn’t slept since Christmas.

The Quadra Island resident works with a local company responsible for clearing snow from many of the public parking lots in the community.

Thursday she was shovelling pathways for the local bank after another storm hit the Vancouver Island region overnight, dumping at least a foot of snow.

New Disaster preparedness app coming to Vancouver Island

A new disaster preparedness app is about to be deployed in seven Vancouver Island communities.

Pilot projects will be launched in the Village of Tahsis, District of Tofino, City of Parksville, Town of Qualicum Beach and City of Nanaimo next month.

Preparations are underway to bring the project onstream in the Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District.

Election 2021: Federal Green Party’s battle for survival unfolds on Vancouver Island

Vancouver Island is a long way from the seat of power in Ottawa, but it’s a vital battleground this election for the survival of the federal Green Party.

The party’s only two incumbent candidates, former leader Elizabeth May and Paul Manly, are hoping to retain their toehold on the southeast tip of the island, despite bitter infighting between the party’s leader, Annamie Paul, and some of the party’s brass that dragged on until the eve of the election.
