Pemberton’s six big moves on climate change, three years in

On March 15, 2022, the Village of Pemberton (VOP) declared a climate emergency in response to a local youth-led climate action petition. The declaration, though largely symbolic, detailed the human and financial costs of letting climate change run rampant. The Village has seen devastating flooding and forest fires in the years since.

“The impacts of climate change are obvious,” said Pemberton Mayor Mike Richman. “[The declaration] gave us something to rally around.”

Directly following the declaration, the Village of Pemberton published a Community Climate Action Plan (CCAP), which charts a path towards net-zero emissions by 2050 through six “big moves.”

Vancouver plans to reduce city’s carbon pollution 50% by 2030

When I first interviewed Rob Bernhardt in 2014, you could count the number of British Columbia’s passive houses on your fingers. The Berhardts built the first certified passive house in the Victoria region. Rob went on to become the CEO of Passive House Canada. I recently interviewed him again, during a quick peek at Victoria’s passive houses.

Vancouver intends to be obtain 100% of its’ electricity from renewable sources by 2050. This is quite a jump from the 31% usage today and involves conservation as well as incorporating new energy sources. One of the firms that make 100% possible is Kambo Green Solutions, which provides businesses with solutions to lower their energy needs.
