A message of truth and reconciliation from Fairy Creek

The direct action to protect what some call the last intact old growth ecosystem in southern Vancouver Island, at Fairy Creek, began 420 days ago.  Now the RCMP have left and a couple of Truth and Reconciliation Day messages have been sent from Fairy Creek:

Life of an RCMP Dispatcher

Tucked away on the second floor of the North District RCMP detachment is a spot that could truly be called the nerve centre for policing in northern B.C.

At any given time about a dozen men and women are fielding calls of concern received through the 911 service and relaying the messages to the officers out in the field while at the same time coaxing as much information as they can from people who, in the worst of cases, are fearing for their very lives.

The injunction to stop protesters from interfering with logging in what is commonly believed to be the last intact old growth ecosystem in Southern Vancouver Island ended at 4 PM on Tuesday, September 28th, 2021.

Confrontation over the pipeline continues in Burnaby

At least six protesters have been arrested in this latest phase of the ongoing confrontation between TMX construction crews and self-styled ‘land defenders.’ The immediate struggle is to prevent workers from clearing more than 1,300 trees along the pipeline route through Burnaby. This was to have been carried out between Aug 1 and Sept 15th. The arrests began on September 7th, but a coalition calling itself “Protect the Planet STOP TMX” (PPST) has occupied this site since August 3, 2020.
