Right now, Arne Liseth is his brother Keith’s only remaining connection to the outside world.

Liseth is his brother’s sole designated visitor at the long-term care home in Campbell River, B.C., where Keith lives.

And as the number of COVID-19 cases spike in the province, Liseth worries what little social contact his brother enjoys will be cut off again.

Gorge and Mansons Halls still haven’t received any funding

A little over a year ago, a year since Cortes Island approved the idea of funding our two community halls through our property taxes. Early last December, Strathcona Regional District (SRD) staff received the go-ahead to start negotiations with the Whaletown Community Club (WCC) and the Southern Cortes Community Association (SCCA), which manage Gorge and Mansons Halls. The WCC and SCCA still haven’t received any funding, or been told what is holding things up.

Designing a safer nursing home for COVID times

The images were heartbreaking — a senior citizen, alone in their nursing home bedroom while, on the other side of the window, a family member stands outside and tries to establish some kind of connection to ease the sense of isolation and foreboding.
