GeoScience BC Talks To The SRD Board

GeoScience BC released the results of their most recent mineral survey. Close to 20% of Northern Vancouver Island was covered. The village of Tahsis and parts of Regional District A, in the Strathcona Regional District (SRD), are within this area. Thirty-five new claims were staked within a month of this information being made public. On  Feb 26, 2020, GeoScience BC made a presentation to the SRD Board.

Hospital Board Fears Island Health Is Ignoring Local Wishes

(Editor’s note: The following article mentions matters of concern to residents of the entire Greater Campbell River Health Area, which includes Cortes, Quadra and other Discovery Islands.)

The Comox-Strathcona Regional Hospital District board (CSRHB) wants consultation of clinical pathology samples to remain in the Comox and Campbell River hospitals. It notified Island Health, twice, and received no answer. Now, with the current pathology contracts coming up for renewal at the end of this month, the hospital board fears Island Health is ignoring local wishes to retain pathology services.

In Support Of The Wet’Suwet’en

It was “peaceful, respectful demonstration” in support of the Wet’suwet’en resistance to Coastal Gas Link’s LNG pipeline, in Campbell River on Sunday, Feb 15, 2020. Hereditary Chief George Quocksister, Jr. of the Laichkwiltach Nation, led about 40 people, with banners and signs, from Discovery Harbour Mall along the shoreline beside the Island Highway in Campbell River to Ostler Park
