Come and experience the Coast Salish story of Why the Tides C hange at a FREE FUN FAMILY EVENT for all ages, Wednesday, April 22, from 6:00pm – 7:00pm, at the Campbell River Sportsplex at 1800 S. Alder Street. Meet in Room 1 and we’ll go outside to act out the story together.

Have you ever wondered why the tides change? Why sometimes they are really high and sometimes really low? What would happen to all the tidal creatures – crabs, clams, sea anenomies, bullheads, kelp – and all the creatures that depend on them, if the tides didn’t change? Welllll ….

Campbell River Is Watchfully Reopening

A week has passed since South Korea announced it was in the midst of a second wave of COVID 19. Though some experts insist this will come to Canada, only one Vancouver Island resident is still infected with the virus. Five people died; the rest recovered. British Columbia is in stage three of a restart program. Public health guidelines still prohibit gatherings of 50 people or more. Campbell River is watchfully reopening.

COVID-19 News Update For March 17, 2020.

This is a COVID-19 news update for March 17, 2020. As of yesterday, there are 103 confirmed cases of COVID 19 in British Columbia. 8 of these are on Vancouver Island. The first was a Victoria. The seven most recent cases were reported yesterday. A Courtenay doctor confirmed that one of her patients is among them. While I have yet to see official confirmation, two sources have independently mentioned a case of COVID -19 in the Campbell River Hospital.

Protect Our Hospital Services

(Editor’s note: The following article mentions matters of concern to residents of the entire Greater Campbell River Health Area, which includes Cortes, Quadra and other Discovery Islands.)

According to Dr David Robertson of Island Health, transferring the consultation of clinical pathology samples from Campbell River to specialists in Nanaimo and Victoria was a significant improvement. He insists the turnaround time on lab results is consistent with, or better than, when those services were provided in Campbell River. Dr. Aref TabarsiI, senior general pathologist at the Campbell River hospital, 75 doctors, the Campbell River Hospital’s surgeons, lab technologists, assistants and board of directors all disagree. Campbell River’s City Council, the Regional Hospital Board and the laboratory staff demand that local pathology services be restored – but neither Island Health or the Ministry of Health are responding. Two hundred citizens came to hear more at the Citizens for Quality Health Care/Council of Canadians Town hall meeting ‘Protect Our Hospital Services’ held in the Campbell River Sportsplex on Sunday, Feb 9, 2020.
