Lux Research just released a report stating that as prices keep falling, “Big Oil” is increasingly using smarter sensors and “Big Data” to manage risks, cut costs by increasing efficiency, and increase revenues. This mornings interview is with Simon Fraser Biology professor Lynne Quarmby, who recently came to the media’s attention because of her stand against Kinder Morgan on Burnaby Mountain. She had not fully realized the extent to which Canadians are disenfranchised. Though 70% of the population were opposed to this project, they had no voice in the matter. This led to her decision to “enter the belly of the beast.” Lynne Quarmby seeks the Green party nomination for the new riding of Burnaby North – Seymour.
Local residents stoppeded Kinder Morgan from working on Burnaby Mountain Conservation Forest this morning. Four company workers attempted to access the area where they had been clear cutting trees before the City of Burnaby shut their operation down on September 2. The Kinder Morgan workers abandoned the attempt after being “shouted out,” and tried to access by another route. When this failed, they left.

Germany leads the World in energy efficiency, according to the 2014 scorecard released by the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) today. Sixteen nations were studied. Six of the top 10 were from Europe. Canada was the only North American nation to make the cut, placing 9th.
