Two Cortes Island events fundraise for Fairy Creek demonstrators

Several events in the next few weeks on Cortes Island are fundraising for the ongoing blockades and protests in the Fairy Creek area on Vancouver Island.

Two of these events are both scheduled for this Friday, Aug. 27.

Organizing A Collective Response To COVID-19

At the first virtual Community Conference, Cortes Island organizations and businesses described their preparations for the impending COVID 19 pandemic. The process of reporting continued into the second conference, where callers also discussed off-island travel. At the third, on March 27, 2020, callers were divided into ten break out groups as Cortes organises a collective response to COVID -19.

Coming on May 18 – Seafest 2019

With Cortes Island’s largest annual event fast approaching, I met with event organizer Kristen Schofield-Sweet. As it was a glorious spring afternoon., we sat at the wooden picnic table behind the radio station. When Howie Roman finished his program, “Anything Goes,” he joined us in a discussion of Seafest 2019 and what this event means to our island community.
