Ferry traffic getting back to pre-COVID levels

BC Ferry traffic on both the Cortes and Campbell River ferries were almost back to pre-COVID levels in 2021. 

20,000 more vehicles sailed from Campbell River than the previous year and  there were almost 4,600 more from Cortes Island.

Quadra Singers hold in-person concert

The Quadra Singers first in-person concert since the beginning of the pandemic was at the Quadra Community Centre on December 10th and 11th. 

“We had almost sold out concerts, both nights. Our tickets went on sale and in Quathiaski Cove’s ‘Inspirations.’ We had pretty well sold out both nights,” said Valerie van Veen, one of the singers.

Quadra Island’s water problem

Quadra Island’s groundwater appears to be disappearing. 

“We need to figure out where it’s going, how much we have that we don’t know about and then how we can make sure that not just the people on Quadra, but also the environment and businesses get what they need,” said Jude McCormick, leader of the Quadra ICAN water security team.  “It is a Herculean task and the first part is to make people aware that we have a problem.”

First of two Hybrid/e-ferries for Campbell River run arrives in BC, second on its way

Two hybrid diesel/electric ferries with increased vehicle capacity will begin providing two-ship service on the Campbell River – Quadra Island route starting in early 2022.
